What usually happens in a body-psychotherapy session?
As a body-psychotherapist, I facilitate the process with techniques that focus on the body—on the level of sensations that are often outside of our awareness. I might, for example, ask you questions about where you feel your feelings or reactions in your body. I might help you become more aware of your posture or spontaneous movements. I might suggest bodily exercises such as a particular way of standing or a breathing exercise, or I might use touch in order to help you experience how you relate to contact with another person. I might also help you pay careful attention to dreams and spontaneous images that provide insight into the deep conversation between body and psyche.
What happens then depends on where you are in your process.
Many people find that these kinds of techniques give them a very powerful, direct experience of their feelings, reactions, and patterned ways of relating to others, and they can help awaken new possibilities.
